Strawberry shortcake

Ingredients: For the Shortcakes: – 2 cups all-purpose flour – 1/4 cup granulated sugar – 1 tablespoon baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small piece – 2/3 cup milk – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Strawberries: – 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced – 1/4 cup granulated sugar – Optional: whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Prep Shortcakes: Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter, add milk and vanilla. Form dough, cut circles, and bake.

Macenate Strawberries: Toss sliced strawberries with sugar, let sit.  Bake Shortcakes: Bake in preheated oven until golden.

Split Shortcakes: Slice shortcakes horizontally.  Assemble: Place bottom halves on plates, top with macerated strawberries, and cover with top halves.

Serve: Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.  Enjoy: Indulge in delicious homemade strawberry shortcakes!

Store: Store leftovers in an airtight container.  Reheat: Reheat briefly before serving, if desired.
